What Is a Solar System?
The sun and all the planets with their bodies revolve around it. The planetary system is called "solar" because the sun is named SOL, after the Latin word for SUN, "Solis" plus, anything that's related to the sun is called "solar." The solar system includes the eight planets and the moons, countless asteroids, dwarf planets, comets, and other tiny icy objects. Our planetary system is situated in an outer spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy.
